We are truly amazed how fast the past 3 years have clicked off since starting our retirement journey started. We had no idea back in January of ’21 as to where this journey was going to lead us. As 2024 kicks off, we took a little time to reminisce back over these 3 years talking about all the places we’ve been, the people we’ve met along with the different ventures we’ve taken on. We quickly came to the conclusion that we’ve been privileged and blessed in this journey with many memories to lean on.
We’ve definitely seen our low point with the passing of my brother and the recent passage of a close friend in Georgia. Back in 1996 when my dad passed away, I realized how one can work your entire life then be robbed out of any retirement enjoyment with death. I now had to see this again with these 2 passings, it reinforces my drive to not only enjoy every retirement day but to also make a difference in the people's lives that we get to meet and enjoy.
The high points were experiencing a new career as a manager in the Parks and Recreation arena and living a campground life on a 64-mile lake for 2 years with a staff of people who really blessed and enriched Linda and my lives. The adventure of traveling twice across the United States and enjoying the beauty of our great Country. The last half of 2023 we’ve enjoyed traveling all over the SE as the Field Consultants for our daughter’s company Timberline Glamping Company reviewing all the Franchise locations. We learned to appreciate the differences in culture and beauty that the SE has compared to the NW.
We find ourselves at another crossroad has 2024 begins as we consider a proposal to do a joint venture with Timberline at one of their 3 new locations opening this year in Florida. The state has been a top performer this past year for the company with its year around sunny weather and temperatures. Also, the State Parks Administration is very supportive of Timberline and impressed by it being their fastest growing vendor in the State. No doubt there is a lot of positive points for us to consider but for the time being we’re leaving it in God's hands on, for He will never leave us or forsake us.
That it’s for now
Craig & Linda
